Week’s events: Legacy Lecture, brain and sound, tribal libraries, jazz

University of �黨��Ƶ Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and events this summer. Here’s what’s happening during the week of June 1-7:

• On Monday, June 1, the 2026 Legacy Lecture will honor Leonard Kamerling. Kamerling, UAF professor of English and curator of film emeritus, is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and ethnographer with more than 50 years of experience documenting �黨��Ƶ Native and world cultures. The lecture is at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at the University of �黨��Ƶ Museum of the North.
• On Tuesday, June 2, the Healthy Living lecture series will host Lily Hughes, audiologist, discussing “Why Hearing Matters: How Sound Shapes the Human Brain.”
• On Wednesday, June 3, the Discover �黨��Ƶ lecture series will feature Tyson Rinio, assistant professor of library science, discussing “Cultural Relevance in Tribal Libraries.” The lecture is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
• On Thursday, June 4, the Music in the Garden concert series will feature the Headbolt Heaters at 6 p.m. and the Kit Carson and the �黨��Ƶ Wompus Cats at 7:30 p.m. at UAF’s Georgeson Botanical Garden.

All events are free and open to the public. Parking on the UAF Troth Yeddha’ Campus is free after 5 p.m.
