The UAF Cooperative Extension Anchorage Outreach Center serves Anchorage, Â黨ÊÓÆµâ€™s largest city, with nearly 40% of the state’s population. Anchorage schools are among the most varied in the country. While 75% of school families speak English, the remaining 25% speak 100 different languages, such as Spanish, Hmong, Samoan and Filipino.

The district offers outreach programs in agriculture and horticulture; health, home and family development; integrated pest management; nutrition; and 4-H and youth development.

Engage in fun activities from Project Learning Tree that connect youth to nature while exploring soil and soil Health

Explore and learn about the science of soil with UAF Research Assistant Professor, Caley Gasch

Who: Formal and non-formal educators, youth leaders (camp staff, 4H leaders, Scout leaders, nature center staff, etc), homeschool parents, librarians, gardeners, backyard farmers and anyone interested in soil health! This is a class for adult educators to be trained to teach youth.

Cost: $20, includes lunch, PLT activity book and soil testing

The 4-H State Presentation Contest is open to 4-H youth who qualified in their district contest by earning Grand & Reserve Champion. The state contest will be judged over Zoom. The link will be provided upon registration. Contestants will have the option to present at their local 4-H office or make other arrangements.

Demonstrations, illustrated talks and speeches will be judged in separate age categories:

Junior: ages 8&/ces/districts/anchorage/8211;11

Intermediate: ages 12&/ces/districts/anchorage/8211;14

Senior: ages 15&/ces/districts/anchorage/8211;18

*Team presentations are judged with all ages together. Limited to registered 4-H youth.

Come meet and pet goats from The Tiny Home(stead), a family farm in Chugiak, and learn about what it takes to raise animals and run a farm in Â黨ÊÓÆµ. 4-H personnel will talk to children about animal husbandry in Â黨ÊÓÆµ, environmental science, etc.

3600 Denali Street, Loussac Library Lawn (If the weather outside is unsafe for the goats, we&/ces/districts/anchorage/39;ll meet in the 4th floor Learning Commons.)




NOTE: Only ~20 people at a time will be able to enter the goat pen and participants will spend a limited amount of time with the goats. We anticipate these events will be very popular. We will do our best to accommodate all attendees but we may need to turn away participants due to time restrictions. Be prepared for long wait times. Please follow all library and program staff instructions for the safety of the participants and the goats.
